Rationale

There is a real incentive for companies to maximise shareholder value, more recently, with the advent of triple bottom line reporting the maximisation has extended to stakeholder value. That consideration should significantly frame the decision making processes and strategies adopted by management.

O'Brien (2003)1, in his assessment of capital structure implications for a firm following an innovation strategy, concludes that managers who fail to realise that an inappropriate capital structure can hamper the effectiveness of their firm’s strategy and thus impede the firm’s ability to compete effectively, may erode firm value. Kochhar (1997)2, went on to argue that firms require financial management capability inorder to realise the rents (or potential)present in the strategic assets owned by the firms. He concluded by arguing that the possession of a source of sustained competitive advantage by a firm is not sufficient to obtain improved value, rather, the financial policies of the firm should be in synch with the firms’ source of economic rents. He went on to stress the point that a competitive advantage without such capability can not generate superior performance.

Our service offering is primarily designed to help managers generate and enhance value for stakeholders, it is firmly rooted in helping decision makers to understand the aggregate impact of our recommendations as well as to understand the associated opportunity costs. We do that by developing a strong link between our recommendations and the financial implications.
